Katie and Ryan are two of the most kind-hearted, humble, fun people I have met here in Texas (and ever). Being a 6th grade teacher myself, I can say with certainty that they were by far the coolest 7th grade teachers in the school. If they approach their marriage with the same compassion and dedication they did their classrooms, I know they will have a long happy life ahead of them. – MHApril 6, 2008 – 6:31 pm
Ryan is the best boss you could ask for. He has helped me learn so much about Teach For America, and I am so happy and proud to be a 2008 Corps member! Though Ryan is not the most extroverted guy in the world, he is never too shy to talk about Katie, and I am sure she is just as wonderful as him. I hear teaching through Teach For America is a great way to find a spouse – Ryan and Katie are a perfect testament to that!

Thank you for considering Ryan & Katie in your contest! As parents of the groom-to-be, we think their story is very special & admire them both for choosing to serve the country’s less fortunate youth in a public school setting. Katie & Ryan faced many challenges during their teaching years with Teach for America. They worked as part of a team at a lower-performing school to improve not only the academic performance of their students, but to also instill a sense of self-respect and confidence in 7th graders. Some of the stories we heard – yikes! But with challenges come joys & successes, and we couldn’t be prouder of the difference they have made in the lives of so many children. When Ryan called and told us he had purchased a ring, we were thrilled, as we knew these two were destined to be together. After that phone call, we reminisced about Katie’s first visit to our home. It was Homecoming weekend at Mizzou, and wouldn’t you know it-the opponents were her beloved Wildcats from Kansas State. As she sat through a cold rainstorm (in a gold MU poncho, no less) she had to wonder what kind of football-crazy family she might be getting involved with. We were afraid that we might have scared her off, but were relieved to find out that was not the case.
We have enjoyed many fun-filled moments with the two of them since–whether it’s playing cards with siblings & grandparents at Christmas, or laughing with (or at!) Ryan’s mom as they watched a DVD of old Andy Griffith shows, we have had many memorable times, and look forward to many years of continued joy & happiness. Amy & Kim, it would be wonderful to have you capture the special moments of their wedding day! Thanks again for your consideration. – Sharon & Steve (aka Ryan’s Mom & Dad)April 6, 2008 – 9:22 pm
I met Katie this fall at UT where we are both first year law students. Despite being one of the most startlingly gorgeous and intelligent people I have ever met, Katie is humble, kind, hilarious, generous, and– believe it or not– painfully shy. Apparently when she and Ryan were teaching, she had to go to the bathroom every morning before class and give herself a peptalk, just so that she could stand in front of the 7th graders without shaking. Though I haven’t had the opportunity to spend a huge amount of time with Ryan this year (the nature of being law student), what I have seen of them together is beautiful. When Ryan is around, Katie looks so at ease. Katie and Ryan have such an obvious and deep connection. They truly bring out the best in one another.
Katie is one of the best people I have ever met. Unlike many people who go to law school, Katie is not here for the big firm dollars. She is going to use her law education as a tool with which she can effect positive change in the world. I don’t know anyone who deserves happiness more than this girl. She is one in a million, and Ryan is a very lucky man. Judging by this entry essay, he knows it.

I, too, met Katie our first year of law school – and I don’t think I have ever met a more spectacularly beautiful woman, both inside and out. Her compassion for others and her deep desire to impact positive change in the world are no doubt are a large part of why Ryan decided to pass that fateful note in “7th Grade.” Seeing them together and hearing Katie talk about him inspire me – they are a fantastic example of true love, and I couldn’t be happier that they found one another! Congrats!!

The better question would be “how did they NOT win my heart” because then I could just submit a blank comment card. Katie is one of my favorite people in the entire world, and the way her face lights up when she talks about Ryan says all you need to know about their relationship. She is extremely giving without ever asking for anything in return, she’s passionate in all of her “save the world” endeavors, she has most dry sense of humor imagineable, and she’s absolutely head over heels for Ryan. Take the sappiest romantic comedy you’ve ever watched, and then make it funnier and take out the terrible cheesy moments and you’ve got Katie and Ryan. You couldn’t pick a better couple.April 7, 2008 – 1:37 pm
Ryan is basically one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. At the college magazine we ‘worked’ at, he was always there to help or just offer a smile. I’ve never met Katie, but I’m sure if Ryan picked her, she’s as wonderful as he is.. Congratulations you two!April 8, 2008 – 4:24 am
How did Katie when my heart? Intelligent, beautiful, humble, compassionate – all true. As a friend though, what drew me in first was her great sense of humor. I got to know Katie five years ago when we traveled abroad together for a language program. She is a master of wit and timing and she speaks sarcasm fluently. As I can be an impatient and sometimes quick-tempered person, Katie’s humor was especially important to me. She can take any bad, scary, frustrating situation and make it hilarious in a hurry. Good humor is important to a healthy relationship and I know this trait will serve Katie and Ryan well in marriage.
Buena suerte!April 8, 2008 – 9:24 am
Although I’m sure the other beautiful couples have great relationships and stories behind them, Ryan and Katie are the most deserving of the win. I, too, “worked” at the college magazine with Ryan, and so I know what a kind, generous, thoughtful person he his. And I have no doubt he’s that and more with Katie. It’s great to see him/them so in love–or “smitten” as Ryan says
I wish them the best!April 8, 2008 – 9:55 am
Ryan and I have known each other for a long time, and I always associate him with a quote from The West Wing (we’re both fanatics).
In the scene, President Bartlet is about to deliver the State of the Union address, and he’s briefly speaking to the Secretary of Agriculture in the Oval Office – the one cabinet secretary chosen that evening to stay away from the Capitol in case the building and all major government officials are blown away at one time. The President first tells him what to do in terms of the Military, the Stock Exchange, etc. Then,
Bartlet: “If anything happens. . . . You got a best friend?”
SecAg: “Yes, sir.”
Bartlet: “Is he smarter than you?”
SecAg: “Yes sir.”
Bartlet: “Would you trust him with your life?”
SecAg: “Yes sir.”
Bartlet: “That’s your chief of staff.”
Now, I’m no Josiah Bartlet, but I sure like to think that no matter what I’m doing or where I am, Ryan Smith will always be my Chief of Staff. And although I’ve only had the pleasure of hanging out with Katie a handful of times, she has really charmed me with her kindness, wit, and affection.
They say that aside from your love, the most sacred think you can give is your labor. That these two fell in love while giving their labor to a movement as noble as Teach for America says more about them than I ever could. God Bless Ryan and Katie. (JBS)April 8, 2008 – 10:23 am
This is by far the most adorable story!!! And it’s even better because it’s told from the guys perspective (always a bonus!). Definitely my favorite!April 8, 2008 – 3:12 pm
I also met Katie this fall at UT when we started law school together. She won my heart when I discovered what a generous, humble, and hardworking person that she is. Her passion to change the world is contagious and it brings a smile to my face when I see her eyes light up as she talks about how she wants to make a difference. I have not had the same opportunity to get to know Ryan, but I know that Katie is thoughtful and deliberate in everything that she does and if she has chosen to spend her life with Ryan he must be an AMAZING man!
You truly could not pick a more deserving couple.April 8, 2008 – 3:30 pm
I already commented once, but I forgot to mention one very important thing. I think it is probably a wedding photographer’s worst nightmare to work with a bride that is high maintenance, fussy, and controlling. For what it is worth, Katie would be the most wonderful, laid back, and grateful bride that you may ever work with.
Like every bride, she wants her wedding day to be beautiful and memorable, but her primary focus is on building a lasting partnership with Ryan. Many brides focus only on the wedding without concern for whether they are building a marriage that will last.
If you are able to preserve Ryan and Katie’s wedding memories you will not just be capturing a wedding day, but the beginning of a wonderful and lasting partnership between two people who have set out to make a difference in the world.April 8, 2008 – 4:03 pm
Being a sibling that’s five years younger, it might be assumed that my brother is the one that looks out for me (and believe me, he does!). However, I think most of my family and friends can tell you that, hands down, I am by far one of the most overprotective little sisters one could ever encounter. There’s not a man on the face of the Earth that I look up to or out for than my brother.
When it’s come down to Ryan’s girlfriends, I’ve been known to be a skeptic…but seriously, who could ever come close to being good enough for him?! This guy’s got it all…loyal and caring beyond doubt, incredibly smart, and perhaps what he’s best known for: being full of hilariously witty and sarcastic comments (a Smith family trait that Ryan has mastered to a T).
When I first saw Ryan around Katie, I knew instantly that this girl was going to be a keeper. I saw Ry truly being himself…all smiles, laid back, and dropping those satirical comments with natural ease. Katie, too was laid back and had a killer smile. Although shy and reserved, she made equally hilarious “Ryan-esque” comments…it kind of freaked me out at how similar these two were. I determined that Katie was worthy of my approval.
When Ryan called me and said that he was going to propose, he asked me if it would be ok if I had another sister. When I started crying, he freaked out and thought that it was because I was upset. I started laughing and told him that they weren’t tears of sorrow, but that I was so excited to have Katie in the family.
I can honestly say that these two are one of the best examples of a couple I have ever seen. Their mutual dedication to their personal beliefs/goals and to each other is undoubtedly solid. I’m eternally grateful to be a younger sister to them both.
Love you guys,
AndreaApril 8, 2008 – 7:13 pm
My brother is a hard-working, independent overachiever. Just mentioning Katie makes Ryan visibly relaxed, as indicated by a wide grin and a look in his eye I had never seen from him before he passed Katie the note.
Ryan and Katie have a lot in common: Their work-ethic, commitment to those in need, and sense of humor are just a few. That being said, their ability to depend on each other for strength and emotional support while maintaining their personal independence is what I admire most. Each knows the other needs room to grow, and willingly supports their pursuits toward lofty goals.
I am thrilled my brother found such an amazingly beautiful, intelligent, and compassionate woman in Katie to be his bride. As his older sister, I have never been afraid to question Ryan’s decisions. The only question I had for Ryan when he told me he had bought her a ring was, “What took so long?”
SSAApril 8, 2008 – 8:32 pm
Ryan won our hearts many years ago when he was a little boy and would spend time with us. His smile and mischievous ways captured our hearts and provide many happy memories.
Since meeting Katie and getting to know her there is no doubt that she is a good match for Ryan. Grandpa & Grandma K.April 8, 2008 – 9:22 pm
I’m in awe of my nephew’s writing of his new found love – but then again Ryan has always kept me in “awe”. Quiet and at times unassuming but never without deep profound thought. Always on top of his game, compassionate with his actions, excelling at whatever path he chooses in all aspects of his life. And yet again – he’s obviously on the right path with his recent engagement to Katie. Two peas in a pod!! The family can’t wait for the big day.
Selecting their wedding will allow you to capture this ideal couples’ perfect day – a match made in heaven – right here on earth!!!
Let’s hear it for “Chiefer” a/k/a Ryan and Katie!!!April 9, 2008 – 8:14 am
I can definitely vouch for these two! As a coworker and fellow teacher with both Ryan and Katie for our two-year TFA commitment, and now as a co-worker with Ryan on TFA staff, I have enjoyed both Ryan and Katie’s friendship for many years now. When two quality, wonderful individuals such as Ryan and Katie get together – you can imagine the joy both of them bring as a unit to all those who know them. I also there isn’t much money to be had in the education-world, and as a law student, Katie isn’t exactly rolling in the dough, either. For all these two have given of themselves to others in need, writing here to encourage The Silver Lining to offer your services pro bono to Ryan and Katie is the least I can do because they deserve this and more.April 9, 2008 – 11:13 am
Let’s see… Where do I start? I have know Katie since I was a little girl. She is a year older than me and we both attended the same school’s from Kindergarten clear through K-State. Katie and I became better friends around… hmm… I would say, the seventh grade! Seems to be a significant grade level in Katie’s life
Katie is a wonderful person that I have shared an enormous amount of memories with. It was more recent that I met the man that stole her heart, Ryan. Katie brought him home for Christmas, and being the brave woman she is, she brought him out among some of her old high school/college friends. I must say I approved in an instant. It was obvious how much the two cared for eachother and I was happy to see Katie so happy. I would just like to send another congratulations to the lovely couple, and as said by others before me, How could they NOT win your heart?
~Ashley DowneyApril 9, 2008 – 3:49 pm
I was fortunate to work with both Ryan and Katie while they were teaching 7th grade. Though they are a team now, they won over the hearts of their students and their colleagues as caring and dedicated individuals. It is these shared characteristics that make them so compatible and enjoyable to be around. We, students and teachers, miss them terribly at school.
Not only are they great in the classroom setting, they are a blast in their private lives. I will always want Katie to be on my team when playing any game especially Trivial Pursuit. It is because of her that I will remember that Balboa was a Spanish explorer who was executed on return to Spain (the game winning answer provided by Katie.)
They have given so much of themselves to those in need, and have been each other’s support. Both of them are generous with their laughter and spirit and this is why they deserve this gift. Those of us who know them, know they will have a loving marriage and fun wedding to celebrate the beginning of that marriage. I just hope they will have a talented photographer who is able to capture that in the pictures. Wishing you my best Katie & Ryan – Melina FloresApril 9, 2008 – 8:12 pm
I also “worked” with Ryan in college, and he’s just such an all-round nice person and great guy (and a true, blue Royals fan!). Congratulations on the engagement! I hope you guys win; I certainly think you deserve it!April 10, 2008 – 12:04 pm
Ryan and I met playing drums in junior high band. I was one of the few girl drummers at the time but Ryan helped me to not feel like an outcast. I could always count on Ryan to make me laugh or give me a hug. We continued to drum into our high school years, and as the competition increased Ryan never let it go to his head. He was an excellent player and teacher, which is very hard to come by. I have so many great memories of Ryan and how he could make anything fun. Just driving him home in my beat up 1985 LTD was an adventure. Ryan even was kind enough to take me to prom when my jerk boyfriend dumped me. It would be easy for me to go on and on here. Ryan is just one of those genuine nice guys. I feel lucky that I got to share so much time with him growing up. I know Katie must be just as special as he is. I cant wait to meet her some day. Pick them!April 11, 2008 – 1:25 pm
I met Katie two years ago when we were interns in Washington DC for our First District Congressman from Kansas. Katie and I were the only two interns in the office, so we bonded quickly. The first thing you notice about Katie is how beautiful she is, so it is easy to understand why anyone would be attracted to her. But after being around her, I got to know what a wonderful person she is. I loved her dry sense of humor, it very much matched my own. While talking to her, you can hear the passion she has for helping others and wanting to make a difference. I believe that Katie will do something very special with her life and will make a significant difference in the lives of others. I met Ryan when he came to visit Katie and I could see the connection between them immediately. They are a perfect match for each other and I am so happy for them. They have both given their time, talents, love and compassion to others, I hope now you will reward them for all they have done.

I have known Katie since the third grade and she is by far the best friend a girl could ask for. Besides her loyalty and humor, she is gracious and giving. She is just as loving as she is beautiful and intelligent. She and Ryan met during their time working for the elite Teach for America program. I have only met Ryan once, but was convinced simply by the way he looked at Katie that they were the real thing. That look of love that seems to melt. They are both so beautiful–both inside and out. Best wishes to you both! Love you guys!–JenMay 14, 2008 – 10:19 am

Hello- this is Mary Jane’s mom, Mary Ann, here! This is what endears Mary Jane and Tim to my heart and why I think they deserve the photo prize. (Mary Jane is so sweet, I named her after the candy!!)
Tim and Jane are two people who respect each other, their friends, family and community. I really do learn something new and important every time I am around them. They are so sincere about being contributors to society, raising a family, and enjoying life. When you get to know them, thier energy and enthusiasm for each other will make you smile.
Tim and Jane need phtographers who will capture the magic of that day-no ordinary photographs will do!! Thanks for offering this prize- what a cool thing to do! Say Cheese! Mary Ann Edele (MOM)April 5, 2008 – 9:14 pm
We met Mary Jane and Tim a little over a year ago and quickly realized that they are genuine, insightful, and good-natured. They are two well-matched people, who contribute to the community and the lives of their friends. They appreciate details and have a strong sense of aesthetics. If awarded this prize, they will treasure the photographs for the rest of their lives and will share them with a wide audience of friends, acquaintances, and relatives.

Hello! This is Tim’s “little” sister, Kristin. Tim and Jane should win this contest because not only are they an amazing couple, but they are even more amazing individuals. They both have very strong values and opinions and are committed to holding true to what they believe in.
I can tell you right now, that with Mary Jane’s artistic ability and with both of their strong beliefs and convictions, this wedding will be unique, creative, and beautiful. I am sure it will be like no other wedding you have ever seen. They do nothing ordinary.
Tim and Jane are such a complete couple and deserve to win this contest because they truly are perfect for each other. PLEASE CHOOSE THEM!!!!!!!April 6, 2008 – 9:35 am
Hi! This is Tim’s Mom. Our whole family has such close ties to Columiba. Tim’s Dad and I fell in love sitting in the grass outside of Middlebush Hall. Both Tim and his sister graduated from Mizzou. When we first met Jane we fell in love with her and her whole family. Our two families met and immediately felt a strong connection, and as the years have gone by a strong love for one another. When you have two people you love and are so proud of that is a great thing. But when you can also say I learn from them and most of all, I admire them. What more can a mother hope for? Their wedding will reflect who they are as people and I can assure you will be unlike anything you have seen before! Please pick them and join us in celebrating their committment to one another.April 6, 2008 – 10:21 am
Tim Gibbons senior here. My wife,
Sue and I met at Middlebush Hall in 1975 the day after the Mizzou football team beat Alabama. The fact that our son Tim and his fiance’ Mary Jane, live in, work in and enjoy Columbia so much is a joy to us. Sue and I are actually looking to buy a second home in Columbia in the near future. You could not be considering a more thoughtful and loving couple than Tim and Mary Jane. Their devotion to each other as well as to the community, is awesome. They often speak of their love of all things Mid-Missouri, from the topographical beauty to the enthusiasm of the people. Your photography award would “show them” that they are heading down the right path.
Tim Gibbons, Mizzou ’77April 6, 2008 – 11:21 am
Hi I’m Tim’s Aunt Cindy or Timmy as I still call him. I’ve watched Him grow from a wonderful life loving young man into a give it all you got grown-up. He went to college in Columbia Missouri to become a lawyer. When he was accepted to Law School he took a step back and looked at his life. Having nothing against lawyers he decided he wanted to get down and dirty and really help the back bone of our nation “The Farmers”. He has put his blood sweat and tears into doing so. Timmy was always perfect to me. How could he be any better? Then he met Mary Jane and I found out. When someone finds true love they can move mountains together. I have no doubt they will. Please pick them I swear you won’t be disappointed.April 6, 2008 – 4:55 pm
Hi – MaryJane’s Aunt Jan here. It’s easy to write about someone you love so much, b/c they impress you and I love and am always impressed with MaryJane. Now let me see if I can impress you by letting you in on several facts about these two…MaryJane and Tim are creative. She paints and has vision (Already their wedding plans incorporate whats important to each). He plays the mandolin and has a wonderful connection to bluegrass. They are honest – they believe in humanity, earth and fun. They live for the moment, yet have a grasp for what it takes to make it together in the future. They travel and appreciate culture. They are best friends who love to love each other. And…They are photogenic – I mean look at them!
Please consider Tim and MaryJane for your photo contest – it would mean a lot to have an establishment in their area represent their photographs, not to mention – you have excellent vision too.April 6, 2008 – 8:48 pm
Hello!!
This is Elaine, and I have known Mary Jane for 13 years as the best friend anyone could ask for. She exudes this wonderful positive energy that has (and I’ve seen) brightened many peoples rainy days. She and Tim are so well known in Columbia as some of the friendliest, most solid, respectable, and inspiring individuals to meet. And the fact that they found eachother, and have whole-heartedly decided to go through life together shows that their wedding will be a true and genuine event. I myself can’t wait to see what creativity and individuality will be put into their wedding day. Aside from knowing that they are a wonderful couple, you should pick Tim and Mary Jane for the fact that it will be the most beautiful and unique event to photograph for probably some time. I hope to see you there!!April 6, 2008 – 9:28 pm
Hi,
I wanted to weigh in here as Jane’s older brother. These kids are for real. They’ve got funk, relevance and heart. Tim and Jane have a carefully planned event that fits well with the spirit of your grand prize. I hope you do nudes. peace out. la famiglia, gene.April 7, 2008 – 12:00 am
Hi! I’m Mary Jane’s sister and maid-of-honor! There are many reasons why Jane and Tim deserve to win this photo package but one reason stands out in particular. My husband and I live in Germany and we just found out that we are expecting our first baby at the end of November! This exciting news came after Jane and Tim had already picked their wedding date in late October. They had even settled the details with the theatre, hotel and caterer. After doing a bit of research online, we discovered that it can be risky for me to take an international flight in that stage of pregnancy. I absolutely refuse to miss my little sister’s wedding, but at the same time, I can’t put this new, little creature’s health on the line. Mary Jane and Tim didn’t hesitate a second and didn’t ask twice. They called all of their venues, asked about alternative dates and were able to move one of the most important days in their lives to an earlier date. We can’t thank them enough – but that’s just the way they are. P.S. To those family members who are finding out about our exciting news right now – sorry we couldn’t tell you personally, but we really wanted to give Silver Lining an good example of how great (and selfless) Jane and Tim are!April 7, 2008 – 4:01 am
Hello! My name is Beth, and I’m a friend of Mary Jane and Tim’s. We met in Columbia, where we all went to school, and became fast friends. My fiance and I recently moved to Seattle for a new job, and both MJ and Tim were so supportive of our big move (even though we were sad to be moving so far apart!) The fact that we have kept in touch proves to me how great they are, and how much they care about other people. They are both wonderful individuals, and make a fastastic couple together. Both give all they are to each other, and they have always been very pro-active about supporting their community, families, and friends. I have always been in awe at the wonderful relationships they have with their families, and by seeing all the support they have in this endeavor alone, I know that their relationships will continue to be strong. They deserve all the best in life, and since they already have each other, winning this wonderful gift from Silver Lining will be icing on the cake!! Best wishes to the happy couple, and thanks for these years of support and friendship!! Talk to you soon!!April 7, 2008 – 9:57 am
I am Mary Jane’s auntie and the choice seems obvious to ME!
Look at these two!
They are both gorgeous! Like movie stars! Their darling personalities come through in every photo they are in. They simply ooooze STAR QUALITY! They are the kind of people that you love to be around. Not just because you think you might have seen them on the red carpet but also because they make you feel so special. They could only enhance your portfolio of wedding shoots! This couple would be “good for business”! They are among the most photogenic people I know. The fact that they are madly in love will shine through your lens. People will say, “Look at these wedding photos of Mary Jane and Tim!! I want THEIR photographer for My wedding!” Love, Auntie MarApril 7, 2008 – 10:46 am
I am Mary Jane’s aunt, Aunt Marian. We heard about this photo package and would love for Mary Jane and Tim to win. They are both so sweet, not only to each other, but to all of us. They are very considerate and thoughtful and artistic. Their wedding plans have shown their artistic thoughts and plans. They know what they want and won’t “settle” for anything less. They’re both very photogenic and would make your job very easy. Here’s to a great future bride and groom and hoping they win. Love you both, Aunt MarianApril 7, 2008 – 11:43 am
Hi there! My name is Justina and I met Mary Jane about 3 years ago in Columbia, MO, and we became friends almost immediately. Mary Jane and Tim are both such great people–outgoing, energetic, and friendly. I have no doubt that their wedding will be very unique and very beautiful, they are the perfect couple to win the photography package from Silver Lining! Congrats and Best Wishes!!April 7, 2008 – 11:50 am
Tim and I have been best friends for about 18+ years or so I guess. I am proud to call him and his family my family. We were also roommates for 5 years, so, Mary Jane I feel your pain.
Tim saw Mary Jane across the street on Campus, crossed that street to meet her, and never went back. Throughout the years, Tim has been a loyal friend, strong supporter, as well as an honest and strong-willed adversary to me. It is because of these traits that Mary Jane also grew to love Tim, and it is with that strong love and commitment that Tim and Mary Jane with continue to grow as partners. Mary Jane, you have found a loyal friend and partner, please take good care of him, he needs all the help he can get. I love you both.
JustinApril 7, 2008 – 11:54 am
This is Mary Jane’s cousin, Jenny. I just wanted to say that Mary Jane and Tim deserve this photography package more than anyone! They are both very genuine people. From the time I met Tim, I always knew he was a great person. And Mary Jane has such a great heart–I can see why Tim is so drawn to her! I think their wedding will be a wonderful and unique experience for everyone! Look how beautiful inside and outside they both are!! If you choose Mary Jane and Tim, I know it will be a decision you will not regret!April 7, 2008 – 12:04 pm
Hi, this is David Wilson, Mary Jane’s “boss” at True/False.
I use the quotation marks around boss because the idea of getting Mary Jane to do anything that she doesn’t want to do seems laughable.
Oh, she’s friendly. Actually, Mary Jane’s one of the warmest people I know. And she’s charming and polite and thoughtful and nice . . .
But I’m guessing that what really grabbed Tim’s heart was the quick mind and steel will beneath the charm. And I’m sure that Mary Jane, who clearly would make any guy lucky, saw similar qualities in Tim.
So, yeah, they’re a beautiful couple. But more importantly, they’re a couple that are going to last. And a couple that, as great as they are as individuals, are even better together.
And you won’t find a pair of harder working or more real people in mid-Missouri. So, yes, they deserve all the love, praise, happiness and free photos the world can push their way. I’m proud to know both of them.April 7, 2008 – 12:33 pm
HI, Paul Gibson here. I met Tim and Mary Jane thru her mom. We enjoy talking over sushi when they are in St. Louis. Everything that has been said about them I want to double. I’ll be in the front row at the wedding and I’ll just smile. They are deserving of this unique gift. Thank you for the opportunity to express how we feel about these guys. PaulxdyquApril 7, 2008 – 8:31 pm
Due to Tim’s inability to obtain a Major League Soccer contract and Mary Jane’s love of the arts, they are POOR! They could potentially be more broke than I (ok just kidding there)! But seriously, Tim and I went to high school and Mizzou together, I regularly kick his tail at Disc Golf (yes, the poor man’s golf), and Mary Jane and I tend to gossip 24/7 when we hang out. Some would say Tim & Jane have a more stable relationship than a couple who has been married for 50 years…well that is 100% TRUE! I love them both and can’t wait to corrupt their precious little children. Show these sweet people some love and hook ‘em up with a killer photographer…Oh yeah one other plus..I’ll be at the wedding and they’ll be able to take pictures of me too, which supposedly are selling on Ebay for about $100 a pop. I truly love these people and you should too!
Love, TreyApril 7, 2008 – 9:08 pm
If ever there was a couple deserving to be memorialized at the outset of their sure-to-be successful and fulfilling lifelong union, it would be Tim and Mary Jane for obvious reasons – they are both really hot. But, I’m not here to talk about that – I’m here to express what is behind the image that a camera would capture – their beautiful lives and relationship that they’ve simultaneously built and discovered. Mary Jane is one of the most outstanding people I’ve ever known, and, with her, this becomes apparent within minutes of knowing her. She is an absolutely solid soul with an outrageous persona. Tim, also, is one of the best men I’ve ever met as well. He carries his life with stoicism and levity, humility and coolness, compassion and strength, and plays a mean mandolin. Together, their individual characters join to form a truly beautiful expression of a life worth living. Tim and Mary Jane are people and a couple that should serve as a model for anyone who seeks happiness, stability, and quality of life. Can a camera capture all of this? Well, there’s only one way to find out, and I would certainly say it’s worth a shot.

Hi. This is Timmy’s Grandma, Audrey. Timmy is the oldest Grandchild and spent so much time with his Grandpa and I at our lake home that the memories I have of him are just priceless. His first word I think was “Why?” and no matter how you answered it the next question was also “Why?”. About everything!!! I think that is why he and Mary Jane go together so well. They both are so smart, witty, inquisitive and unable to accept anything but the best from themselves and from others. I am so happy and excited about their wedding and can’t wait to hang their wedding picture in my home. They are the best!April 8, 2008 – 9:27 am
Hi! I’m Mary Jane’s aunt Linda. You just have to pick this couple, they are full of life, they are funny and really contribute to society. Mary Jane lost her father when she was in grade school and her mother raised 3 children on her own (with the help of a “few” close relatives) There have been sacrifices by Mary Jane, her brother, her sister and especially her mother. The photo package would certainly help out. Tim and Mary Jane treat their families, their friends, their environment and most of all each other with respect and care. I love being with them and I know they would appreciate your generosity. Besides, could you even find a more beautiful couple? They are like candy for the eyes! Please, please pick themApril 8, 2008 – 3:52 pm
Hi I’m Tim’s uncle Tom. I’m not very good with words so all i will ask is that you pick them. Here’s a couple of reasons. Mary jane is just as beautiful on the inside as she is one the outside and since I can’t beat Tim’s dad at golf Timmy did it for me!!!! Thank you and pick themApril 8, 2008 – 6:13 pm
Hi my name is Alex Timmy is my cousin. He has always been really good to me. Enough about him.. Mary jane is the sweetest person I have ever met. She also is very beautiful not just on the outside but the inside too I am sooo excited about their wedding finally happening please please please make it the best PICK THEM Thank youApril 8, 2008 – 6:20 pm
My name is Jason I am Timmy’s cousin. I won’t be able to make it to their wedding I am serving our country in Afghanistan So It would be awesome to get some really great pictures so I could kind of feel like I was their . Thank you & Please pick themApril 8, 2008 – 6:30 pm
You should have seen them dancing at Jane’s sister’s wedding! So hot right now, Jane & Tim. So hot right now.April 9, 2008 – 9:22 am
Well, I’m not a family member of these fine two people…kind of wish I were as you all sound so loving and supportive of each other. And while I have only briefly met Mary Jane, her beauty is immediately evident, both inside and out. I felt like I had always known her. Tim I do know, and I can’t say enough great things about him. He’s smart, well-mannered and has a dedication and commitment to some complex issues that impact us all…our food supplies through local farmers and the environment. He remains consistent and energizes many others to do so too. These two “kids” help me keep alive my hope for the world…and, of course, for love!April 9, 2008 – 3:39 pm
I am so happy for these two! They make a great couple. A photographers dream. -Tammy:)April 9, 2008 – 6:18 pm
Hello from Rhonda, Roger and Monica. We get to work with Tim at MRCC every day that he isn’t spending with the beautiful Mary Jane. Tim’s committment to family farmers and low-income rural families is truly inspirational. He goes far beyond the call of duty in his work to ensure that everyone (no matter their income or social status) has access to healthy affordable food. Choosing Tim and Mary Jane would be like giving a little something back to two people who give so much of themselves for their communty. What an inspiration that would be!
One more thing–their plan to use all local food at the wedding is a real testament to their committment to family farmers, the environment and of course great food.
Please pick Tim and Mary Jane!April 10, 2008 – 12:42 pm
give jane and tim the prize!!!!!!April 12, 2008 – 1:00 pm
I would be very happy to see Mary Jane and Tim win this photo package. I admire the way they live their lives and always enjoy a good debate with them around the breakfast table in St. Louis! We’re looking forward to the wedding and doing anything we can to help make their day a memorable one. If they win, I guarantee you’ll have a great time capturing them and the whole family on film! Mary Jane’s brother-in-law, Gerrit.April 13, 2008 – 5:09 am
This is Mary Jane’s Aunt Karen ,and I’d like to say a few words about
Mary Jane and Tim. Ever since she was a little girl, Mary Jane has been a creative and outgoing child. She has always worked, played, and
thought, outside the box. Therefore Mary Jane and Tim complement each other so well because although he is somewhat quieter than Mary Jane, they both have sampled, and taken part in, unusual occupations and adventures. (All honest and legal by the way) Take for example their wedding plans ,which include
being married on the stage of an old playhouse with the guests looking on as the audience. This will make a wonderful background for great photos and a more photogenic couple would be difficult to find. There is no doubt that both Mary Jane and Tim enjoy having a good time. However they also think seriously about the importance of doing their
part to improve our planet. They are involved in ways to improve the health and safety of our food ,and care deeply about a clean, safe environment. Finally, these two young people will enhance any photos taken of their wedding celebration The love they share for each other and their
friends and family will make the photos our company produces glow! You cannot fail if Mary Jane and Tim are the winners of this contest.April 13, 2008 – 12:53 pm
Hi, I’m Jess, a friend of Mary Jane’s. We met in Lakota, friends of friends and liked her instantly. She’s caring and warm. Mary Jane exudes goodness and love. I know that these two love each other beyond belief and I wish them all the best, which includes some amazing photography of such a magical day. They are a cornerstone of the Columbia community and it brightens my day and brings a contented smile to my face when I run into Mary Jane and Tim at Lakota Coffee Company on 9th Street. They are so deserving of this award.April 14, 2008 – 10:54 am
Hello there! This is Mary Jane’s cousin Katie here. PLEASE pick this fabulous couple! They are truly caring, kind, and wonderful. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of a prize like this. They would be so appreciative and grateful. I promise you…this will be a decision that you WILL NOT regret. Thank you!April 14, 2008 – 10:55 am
I’m Cat, and I’m lucky enough to be friends with Mary Jane and Tim. I moved back to Columbia after two years of being away, and Mary Jane – who was a familiar face before I left – immediately “took me in” as a friend when I returned. She has amazed me with her culinary expertise at dinner parties, and she and Tim are always excellent company. I admire their honesty and openness, both with their minds and their hearts. They truly deserve to win.April 14, 2008 – 3:56 pm
Please vote for Tim and Mary Jane. After living in Columbia for six years and getting to know each of them very well I can testify to their ever lasting love for one another. They’re a great couple committed to their friends, family and most importantly, each other.
The hardest part of moving from Columbia was leaving my best friends behind. Tim and Mary Jane were certainly among those friends. In fact, I consider them family. Although I don’t get to see them much these days, I think of them often and look forward to our reunions where Tim and I can pick “Red Haired Boy” till dawn and he can show off his Chris Thileesque style of mandolin playing.
No matter the distance between us I know I can count on Tim and Mary Jane whenever I need them, in whatever situation. I feel very lucky to have these two in my life.

They’re all winning my heart!
But I’m just ecstatic about reading the stories everynight!
And you know, if you end up shooting in any of those places mentioned…I’m sure I could make time in my schedule to fly around the world and hold a bag or two (hehe).

Congratulations to the other two honorable mention couples! John and I look forward to reading all the silver medalists’ stories and discovering the winning duo. Every story is special in its own way, and it’s great to see so much variety.

AbbyD - This is Meghan’s 16-year-old (and youngest) sister and I just found out that Meghan and Pat were finalists- I am super excited! I am going to be Meghan’s maid of honor and her and I are incredibly close. I can’t really remember a time when Pat and Meghan weren’t dating, since I was so young when they started. When Pat would come over to the house when I was in elementary school, my parents would tell me to go to the basement to spy on them and tell them what I saw. Now that I’m in high school, all of my teachers ask me about Meghan and Pat and none of them are surprised that they are engaged. My friends and I often joke about the boys at our school and say, “why are there no other Pat Godfreys?” Pat is like a brother to my other sisters and I, always coming on family vacations and such. A few summers ago we were all at the beach and that was the first time there was any talk of a wedding. He, a football star, was the leading player on my family Bocce Ball team and I said, “Meghan, he is officially good at everything. Just marry him already!” As soon as he proposed, Meghan called my mom and I from Honduras in hysterics. My initial reaction was, “duh! What took him so long?” Meghan and Pat are perfect for each other and deserve the perfect wedding. This would help so much!April 6, 2008 – 5:21 pm
JanDavies - Hi,
Meghan is the oldest of my four daughters. One of my greatest wishes is that my other three daughters find the happiness that Meghan has found with Pat. Meghan and Pat have been best friends ever since they were both ditched at their 8th grade graduation dance. Their “dates” ditched them for each other, and that night I drove a van with both the ditchees and the ditchers to an after party (awkward). That awkward night has lead to what I know, in my heart of hearts, will be life-long happiness.
I love the silver lining website and the way you capture the essence of the moment, and the personalities of the characters. I hope Meghan and Pat are chosen so they can have your wonderful creations as their memories. Thank you for even considering them. –Jan Davies (Meghan’s mom)April 6, 2008 – 6:01 pm
Anonymous - I remember Meghan as a gorgeous blue eyed baby on a vist to Chile to visit her and her parents. We even traveled to Honduras (so can vouch for her presence there)to see where she lived and worked with people to prevent or care for those with HIV/AIDS. It was clear that her tender heart was especially connected to the children. Although we live half way across the country, we have very fond memories of Pat and Meghan as a couple over many years and many special events. The photos on your website are beautiful! It would be wonderful if Meghan and Pat’s wedding could be captured by photos as yours. It’s great that you can consider them in your contest! Aunt MarciaApril 6, 2008 – 7:19 pm
Robin Faith - I was a Peace Corps Volunteer with Meghan in Honduras. She and I got sick early in our training period on the same day. I was lucky and got over it. Meghan battled tropical bugs her Entire Service. Did she quit, putting her physical comfort first? No. Meghan stayed, making in a month what most government workers earn in a day. Meghan was a founder of a groundbreaking HIV prevention curriculum that will be shared with other Peace Corps volunteers, even in other countries. She trained trainers from other countries. We all knew about her love for Pat. I am so thrilled to hear of his surprise proposal. For all Meghan has given of herself, I hope the world can give as much back.April 6, 2008 – 11:32 pm
Anonymous - I HAVE BUTTERFLIES just reading your fantastic story! Y’all are meant for each other and I couldn’t be more excited for the both of you!!!! Being apart for so long must have been beyond difficult – this ending really is a silver lining to the story. -Jessie SApril 7, 2008 – 5:53 am
Anonymous - That story is adorable, and reminds me of my parents (my mom laughed my dad off several times…). It’s amazing that you managed to be so far apart for so long, and that you have been together for so long. I wish you the best of luck in everything!
-cApril 7, 2008 – 6:29 am
Brent - You two have stuck it out through a lot. I congratulate you! You’re such a darn cute couple with such a long history together, I think the best contest you could win would be to get married and stay together and continue being happy the rest of your lives.
BrentApril 7, 2008 – 7:39 am
Anonymous - Meghan and Pat are, simply put..two of the nicest people I know. I liked Pat the minute I met him, at Meghan’s Graduation Party. I knew right then they would marry someday. Both of them are happy, upbeat people. Always nice to be with. Always ready to help out those who need it. I have known Meghan all her life, as I am her Grandmother!! She was the most beautiful and captivating child ever. I loved just watching her and listening to her. I am very happy she found a person like Pat to marry and spend her life with. They are absolutetly made for each other, corny as that sounds. Pat is a great guy and we already all love him. I am sure he and Meghan will have a good live together.April 7, 2008 – 9:16 am
Derek Sed - I was a Peace Corps Volunteer with Meghan, we came in together in the same class. A person that always has a smile on her face. I have only had the pleasure to meet Pat a couple of times, but you can tell it is meant to be. That smile that she always has on her face becomes magical when he is around.April 7, 2008 – 9:32 am
Anonymous - Meghan and Pat are a great couple! Somehow as Meghan’s cousin I managed to go 14 years without meeting Pat until recently, but I think he is a great guy and they are so lucky to have kept their love alive during such long periods of separation. Meghan’s work in the Peace Corps is amazing, and she is so deserving of the wedding of her dreams after all the selfless work she has done. They are perfect for each other, and will no doubt lead a life of happiness and love together.April 7, 2008 – 9:48 am
Anonymous - Congratulations! I have seen many relationships fall apart because of the stresses of Peace Corps, and can be a negative person when it comes to love. However, watching Meghan talk about Pat and her life in the U.S., I could tell there was something special between them, and I thought hey, maybe it is real. I believe y´all will have a wonderful marriage because y´all are great friends who can laugh together. Que Dios les bendigaApril 7, 2008 – 12:35 pm
Judy D-D - “Good luck Meghan, you’ll do great! See you in 2008! Will Pat wait??” That was a poem we made up the day of Meghan’s going away party in January 2006. She left for Honduras a week later. Well, here it is 2008 and Pat did wait and she did do great!
Hope to see you at the wedding, SilverBox Photographers!
Judy (Meghan’s aunt)April 7, 2008 – 12:41 pm
Anonymous - Meghan and Pat are one of those rare couples who really were meant to be together forever. They have known each other since they were kids and have only had eyes for each other. I think it was much harder on everyone who loves them to have to wait for Meghan to get through these past two years in the Peace Corps for the engagement!! They are beautiful together in every way and they bring out the best in each other and everyone around them.
I love your contest and am so excited that Meghan and Pat are finalists. I sincerely hope they win! RitaApril 7, 2008 – 3:02 pm
Krista - I met Meghan on the elevator in Washington DC where together we departed to live in Honduars as Peace Corps volunteers for two years. During training is when I first started to hear about her boyfiend Pat. She described him as a sports-loving football jock that was easy going and honest. Unlike the majority of long distance relationships down here, Meghan and Pat not only stayed faithful to eachother but they were able to maintain the close friendship that their relationship was based on. Pat supported Meghan in her work and even stuck by her when she was sent to Panama for some serious ongoing medical issues. It was obvious he wanted her to come home but he never told her to leave Honduars. Instead Pat came down to visit Meghan. I tried to give them alone couple time when he came down but they are the kind of couple you just want to be around. I miss Meghan lots down here in Honduars but I am happy that finally the two of them are together in the same country AND getting married. Congrats and see you both your big day!April 7, 2008 – 3:06 pm
Anonymous - I already wrote a very nice story but I don´t see it posted. It might be because I am still in Honduras where everything moves a little bit slower. But if my other one doesn´t show up, I want to say Congrats to Meg and Pat. You two are the kind of couple that everyone wants to be around. Miss you Meghan but I am glad you are finally back in the same country with Pat.April 7, 2008 – 3:27 pm
Anonymous - I’m a family friend, and have known both Meghan and Pat for just about as long as I can remember. When i was growing up, my family and Meghan’s family would go to the beach together every summer. When I was about 8, Pat started joining us on our vacations. That year on the way home, I told my mom that if Meghan didn’t marry Pat, that maybe he would wait for me to grow up and marry me! Both Pat and Meghan were always so patient with all of us little kids, and now, 9 years later, things haven’t changed a bit. They’re both really great people, and I think they are the perfect couple for your contest!!

Anonymous - Meghan is a wonderful woman. I’ve known her since I was in the sixth grade, since she is the older sister of one of my good friends. She and Pat seem so happy together, and hearing about this proposal simply confirms it. What a great story. I wish them the best of luck!April 7, 2008 – 4:27 pm
Anonymous - Meghan’s father here. Pat and I share two things in common: the same name and a ton of love for Meghan! I am so proud of Meghan and so happy to have Pat as a member of the family. Kudos to the other finalists, but no other couple in America is more deserving of this award!April 7, 2008 – 4:43 pm

Cheers! GinaApril 7, 2008 – 6:23 pm
Anonymous - As Pat’s little sister I am very excited to finally have a sister in Meghan. They are a wonderful couple and I only hope I can find someone who loves me as much as they love each other.April 7, 2008 – 7:37 pm
Amy - Well, I have to say, after knowing Pat for only a few months, he’s a great fellow co-worker. I’ve heard about Meghan but have not had the opportunity to meet her just yet since she was away in the Peace Corps. I too am a returned Peace Corps Volunteer and look forward to meeting her in the near future to share stories about Central America. Pat and Meghan, I wish you both all the best.
Pura Vida,

Anonymous - Where are the “then” and “now” pictures? Pat and Meghan have been together since the 9th grade! As a former classmate, I can remember the days. They are truly the perfect couple. After hearing their story, I hope you are looking forward to this wedding as much as me!
AaronApril 7, 2008 – 8:17 pm
Anonymous - I had not heard the story of the actual proposal until now… it is just perfect! Funny and real – and that is Pat and Meghan. We are so happy for them.
Meghan’s aunt, Rebekkah DaviesApril 7, 2008 – 8:24 pm
Anonymous - I’m Meghan’s uncle so it’s not easy to be objective but I am also a teacher by trade and have had the opportunity to work with lots of young people over the years. While many, if not most, young people of her generation were out trying to accumulate as much money, status and “stuff” as they could, Meghan was in Honduras enduring dengue fever and working with people whose own compatriots had marginalized and ignored. I’m proud to have someone like her as a niece and I’m sure Pat must be a good guy if he chose a young woman like her to marry. And I won’t even get into what a cute kid she was….that would just be cheating.April 7, 2008 – 8:32 pm
Anonymous - This is another of Meghan’s little sisters! I’ve always been a bit envious of Meghan and Pat’s relationship. I’ve been in a long distance relationship for a year and a half, and haven’t handled it nearly as well as Meghan and Pat have. I’ve always thought that keeping a long distance relationship together was impossible, but they really do give me hope! I’ve known Pat forever, and he is like a big brother to me, and I’m so excited to make it official! I’m in college right now, and so far away from the wedding talks and plans, but it’s still on my mind a lot. I think my friends are getting annoyed with how much I talk about it.
Meghan has been in Honduras for the last two years trying to make a difference in this world, and she did a magnificent job. After all her hard work, she truly deserves this happiness. Pat and Meghan are perfect for each other, and are perfect candidates for this contest. They’ve been through a lot to finally be together, and I have a lot of respect for them. I love you, Meghan and Pat

Anonymous - I’m Meghan’s sister. There are four of us, I am the second. It has been amazing to grow up watching my sister fall in love and watching her relationship with Pat develop over many years. Since Meghan is the oldest, Pat was the first boy that any of us “brought home.” I imagine that was not easy for both of them. The three of us younger sisters saw it as our duty to make those first few years as difficult as possible. As Abby mentioned, there was lots of spying (sometimes instigated by our parents, sometimes on our own accord), songs and rhymes were written mocking my sister and her relationship, and Abby just loved to tell my parents that she followed Meghan to school in her backpack and saw them kissing (what do you expect from a five year old?) Compared to my loud, chaotic, and sometimes intimidating family, Pat was a man a few words, especially in high school. I’m pretty sure he rarely responded to anything we did or say with much more than an “aight” during the first year or two of their relationship.
Over time Pat became part of our family. For years I have been calling him either my Brother in Law or Meghan’s Pat, because simply calling him her “boyfriend” felt silly. He is someone I can depend on as a brother. He is someone who brought me and my younger sisters gifts when he went to Hawaii many years , something most high school boyfriends do not do, and someone who will wake up at four in the morning to drive me to the airport so I can meet Meghan and my family in Honduras for Christmas. I will not write the things that Meghan has done for me (not to mention the world), because this is already too long and I would have to write a book. However, their relationship has taught me a great deal about love, hard work, not settling, and how you should expect to be treated by someone who loves you (as Meghan says, you should be treated like a princess).April 8, 2008 – 3:05 am
Anonymous - My name is Dana and I work with Pat, and I have known him for over a year now. I have never met his lovely fiance, however I have heard him talk about her a lot, what a great person she is, and every time she is mentioned he sounds genuinely happy and excited. Meghan sounds like a giving and fabulous girl, and I know that Pat is wonderful, so I cannot imagine a better couple to win!April 8, 2008 – 6:34 am
Anonymous - Oh, this story put such a big smile on my face!
April 8, 2008 – 7:25 am
What a great story to pass on to your children.
Jennifer - I was reunited with Pat at our current company Customink, and went to highschool with both Pat and Meghan, and I cannot believe that after all these years Meghan and Pat have continued to be together. I was never super close with both of them in highschool, but as Pat and I have worked together these past two years, I have learned more and more about how amazing and strong their love is for eachother. My heart melted and I had tears in my eyes, when he told me about his proposal. I wish them the best of everything, because I do not know any other couple who deserves eachother, like I know they do.April 8, 2008 – 8:01 am
kristin - pat and i have worked together for almost 4 years now. pat is one of the most laid back guys you’ll ever meet and has one of the biggest smiles. it’s amazing, though, just how much bigger of a smile he gets when meghan is around. they have such a great history and are going to have an amazing life together. we used to always love to have pat come hang out because he’s such a fun guy on his own. and then meghan started coming to hang out with us when she could (before she left to save the world!) and we realized that meghan was even more fun. they are a great couple to be around and you can’t help but smile when you see how happy they are with each other.

Jessica - Pat used to be my supervisor and since I sat right in front of him, I had the pleasure of hearing all about Meghan and Honduras while she was away in the Peace Corps. The best story Pat has ever told would be the one of when he got the chance to propose while visiting her for New Years. Although circumstances prevented Meghan from keeping the ring there Pat brought it in to show off to all the girls in the office. And let me tell you, was it a nice ring! Congrats Pat and Meghan, and welcome to the Married Club!April 8, 2008 – 12:22 pm
Pat - I just wanted to weigh in and thank everyone for all of the comments. Meghan has been checking obsessively as they have come in and has been more than once moved to tears by what is being said. We obviously would love to win the photography, but win or lose this process, and seeing all the comments from family and friends, has already been very gratifying for us. Meghan is already talking about finding a creative way to save all of these comments as a keepsake.
Over the past ten plus years Meghan and I have already had quite a journey. She has a habit of, as I often put it, going off to save the world. Whether it was the last two years in Honduras, going to separate colleges, or a month working at a mission Mexico one summer in high school (which at the time seemed like two years) we haven’t always been together physically, but I have always felt she is with me. While it has been hard, at times, to be apart I’m always proud of the work she does; plus I’ve had some pretty cool vacations going to visit her. And don’t worry she now has a job that will allow her to focus on just saving the DC metro area for a while.
Thanks again to everyone who has commented and thank you Amy and Kim for hosting such a cool contest.

Anonymous - I love these two crazy kids so much that I just HAD to write a song about the,. (Too bad you can´t upload songs to this thing! You´ll just have to imagine me singing)
Meghan Davies is one of the funniest I know,
Wherever she goes, you´ll find a show,
And Pat he´s a swell I.T. kind of a guy,
His proposal was so cute and funny it made me cry,
And although she was in Honduras 2 long years,
True love endures, despite our fears,
The ceremony will be lovely in DC,
Peace Corps Honduras reunited with glee!

Anonymous - I am a fellow Peace Corps Volunteer also working in Meghan´s HIV/AIDS education project. She had such a wonderful attitude throughout our two years together… very can-do, very positive. We went through some not-so-fun stomach stuff together and she kept me going with her great sense of humor. Meghan, I wish you and Pat the best!April 8, 2008 – 4:33 pm
Sara - So there I was, just a couple of months ago in mid-January…my phone rings and it’s Meghan from Honduras! I’m always thrilled when I get a chance to catch up with her. Meghan starts off by asking questions and telling me to catch her up on my life. For twenty minutes or so, she lets me go on and on, even asking me questions to keep me going. Finally, she announces that Pat is still in Honduras with her and that they had just gotten engaged. At this point, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to yell at her for not blurting out the news right away or immediately start gushing about how excited I was for them. Actually, it wasn’t that hard of a decision…I was incredibly thrilled to hear that they had made this commitment to each other and couldn’t help gushing. I know that they will be so happy and that this marriage will benefit all of man-kind as these two, amazing individuals in their own right, are even more powerful with each other by their side! This anecdote is so typical of them. It shows how caring and selfless they are, always putting their friends before themselves.
Here is the background: I met Meghan about 7 years ago in college, where we lived together for a year and a half. Meghan is one of the kindest, most caring, enthusiastic, and fun people I know. She is always ready and willing to drop everything to help a friend, or a stranger for that matter. I met Pat over some weekend visits in college. We all instantly loved Pat and he fit right in with our friends. We even took road trips in college to get Pat and bring him to visit for the weekend. Meghan and Pat are such wonderful people individually, and together are simply amazing. I can’t wait for the big day and would love to see it documented by SilverBox Photography!

Anonymous - This is Meghan’s “anti-marriage” bachelor uncle weighing in (rut-row!). I gotta tell you though, being around these two makes even the most cynical person rethink such a stance. I see that sappiness rules here, but if you actually knew Pat and Meghan, you would be on here sapping away too. The world could use a lot more Pats and Meghans. What better way to accomplish that then this!

Jessica - I have worked with Pat for over four years and am always amazed by his easy going and positive approach to everything that he does. Since I tend to not be the most laid back person, I have always taken comfort in talking to Pat about everything because he calms me down and makes me feel better. Outside of work we play softball and flag football together and when I get mad at myself or nervous about playing I always look to Pat for guidance. Since I have been talking to Pat about my wedding endlessly for the past few months I was so excited to hear that he was buying the ring and I couldn’t wait until he came back to tell me the story. I know how much Pat loves Meghan and how hard the past few years have been for them living apart but I they both made such efforts to stay connected and in touch and I think that it is a testament to how strong their relationship really is and I am so excited that they will get to spend the rest of their lives together.April 9, 2008 – 9:28 am
Andrew S - So I can’t believe I am Comment #44(ish) and still, no one has mentioned anything about Meghan’s laugh. This is shocking to me. Seeing what everyone else wrote, I definitely agree: Meghan and Pat are amazing, selfless, considerate people and phenomenal friends. I would even put them in the “superhero” category. But, what I’d like to focus on is her laugh. It’s a rich laugh. You definitely know it when you hear it… one of those infectious and enjoyable outward manifestations of joy. And when you are around Meghan, you will hear it a lot… because in addition to all of those other wonderful qualities she demonstrates, Meghan is such a fun person and has a great sense of humor. She has the ability to laugh at herself, and to help others do the same.
Silver Lining folks: if you have the opportunity to attend Meghan and Pat’s wedding, you will see first hand that these two people are amazing and compassionate individuals, but I can also guarantee that you will have one one heck of a time. It will definitely be a phenomenal event, and with your help, they will be able to cherish and re-live the experience for the rest of their lives.April 9, 2008 – 10:56 am
Anonymous - Meghan was our first grandchild and will always have a special place in our hearts. She had little blond ringlets and bright blue, inquisitive eyes. She was precocious and talkative. Not much has changed over the years. We live in Wisconsin, and when Meghan was younger, she and her family visited every summer for nearly a month. We learned all about Meghan’s likes and dislikes. She used to love lemon meringue pie, so much so that she then went on to win a pie-eating contest in high school. Pie flavor? Yes, lemon meringue. She didn’t mince words. When I told Meghan I was a Lumberjack, she shot back, “Grandpa, you’re such a liar.” My brother, Meghan’s great uncle, and his family helped found LAMP (Latin American Mission Program). Meghan volunteered at the same mission in Mexico. When Meghan was in college she volunteered with cancer patients, worked in a long-term health facility, and her career of giving had begun.
We are so happy Meghan and Pat have found each other. We are hoping we will be healthy enough to make it to the wedding. The reception is going to be in a lovely venue in Georgetown overlooking the Potomac. It will be classy, emotional, personal, fun… We know if we can’t make it, Meghan and Pat will make a trek to Wisconsin to share all their memories. Hopefully the memories will be in the form of Silver Box Photos. Amy and Kim, we’d be very jealous if you made it to the wedding and we didn’t. However, we know you’d do a great job capturing the moment. It would be like we were there in person. I’m not lying when I say there are no two people more deserving of this prize.April 9, 2008 – 2:06 pm
Anonymous - As Pat’s brother, I probably shouldn’t have waited so long to look at this site and to post. I’m excited to have Meghan as my official sister-in-law, although knowing how great they are together, it’s been a forgone conclusion for quite some time. I look forward to watching them finally tie the knot after all these years.

Anonymous - I cannot begin to think of a couple more deserving of this prize! Their relationship is one-of-a-kind and truely inspiring! I am so excited to watch them say their “I dos” and become husband and wife! ~StephApril 9, 2008 – 6:16 pm
Anonymous - It seems that I have known Meghan forever and Pat for about the same amount of time. They are a very special couple. Meghan is the sort of person you don’t think could really exist. She’s intelligent, funny, caring, beautiful and gives so much more to those around her than she expects in return. It is no surprise that Pat would trek to the wilds of Honduras to propose. What sane guy wouldn’t go this far. What is even more amazing about this couple is that they are a perfect match for each other. Pat is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. They have done so much for others it would be great if they won the Silver Box award.
I’ll certainly be making the trip from Australia for the wedding next year and for any other major future event in their many years together.

Anonymous - This is Lauren, I am so excited for the both of you! I’m so happy to have gotten to know Pat (you’re really showing your big brother up!) and Meghan (you picked the better brother!) over the past couple of years! Can’t wait for many more years of fun to come!April 9, 2008 – 6:52 pm
Anonymous - Kevin said,
What can I say about these two? Pat was one of my first friends ever. We spent our childhood playing every sport known to man and riding bikes for miles. Then Meghan moved to town and I knew all of that was over. Haha, I joke but it was easy to see at a very young age that these two would always have one another. They dated all through high school and kept it going through time and space. I always said that the only couple that could withstand a long distance relationship is Meghan and Pat. And they have. Cheers to you guys. I can only pray that your futures together reflect your amazing past. Best wishes to the both of you as you continue growing and loving each other.

Sara - Congratulations to you both for sticking it thru, and especially to Meghan who, which I know as a fellow Peace Corps Volunteer, has got to be one of the most resiliant babes I know for dealing with more than her fair share of rare jungle illnesses. You are a gorgeous couple and after making it this far I know you’ll stay happy the rest of your lives.April 10, 2008 – 10:36 am
Anonymous - Meghan and Pat are absolutely perfect for each other, and it’s amazing how they’ve taken the meaning of “long-distance” to a whole new level for basically their entire relationship. The fact that they’ve stayed so close and supportive of each other while in different countries and time zones just illustrates how much they’re meant to be together. And their wedding is sure to be an amazing event for all involved.

Anonymous - To the lovely bride and groom to be…a comment left by Lianna’s wonderful boyfriend, Roberto
I hear that when Pat proposed, Megan laughed. How cute is that? Even though I have only hung out with them sparingly, Pat and Megan have always been the wonder couple staying together whether they would admit it or not.
Conversations in the Davies’ household went on and on about Megan’s work in Honduras and when Pat would finally pop the question. Once the news was in, there were many sighs of relief and resounding calls of “Finally!”
Everyone knew that Megan and Pat would be together forever and now they are making it official. Best of luck to the happy couple now and for many years to come.

Wayne - I have known Meghan for the last 16 years and what an awesome young lady and role model. In a day when so many people want the quick and easy way Meghan laid out a plan and most importantly followed through, a lesson who can all learn from. I am sure with the desire and determination she has already shown Meghan will be successful in life as well as in her marriage. The resolve both have shown in staying together across 2 countries is something we all can learn from. I wish Meghan and Pat the best as they take on life’s new challenges and am confident with all they have already gone through they both will prosper. An awesome story that should win and deserves to be told!! WayneApril 11, 2008 – 5:55 pm
Anonymous - I am such a delinquent friend for not writing something sooner, but I hope it’s not too late! Meghan and Pat are incredible people. They won my heart over almost 8 years ago when I met Meghan in college and then eventually her “friend” Pat. They are both such caring and selfless people who are always willing to help their friends, family, and complete strangers. By awarding this contest to Meghan and Pat, you will get to see first hand how amazing they are. I can’t think of a more deserving couple and I hope you all at Silver Lining get the privilege of meeting them and capturing their special day.April 11, 2008 – 6:03 pm
Beth - I went on one of the trips to Honduras with Meghan and Pat and I can’t think of a more deserving couple. Pat was so excited to see Meghan the whole trip there. They are a fun couple to be around and we always have a blast with them. Honduras was a great place when we all visited Meghan and very fitting that Pat proposed there. Their engagement story is just a small look into how funny there are. I wish the best for them and know they will be a great married couple. -bethApril 11, 2008 – 8:03 pm
Anonymous - As Meghan’s aunt I have known Pat for years and Megs forever. When she told me they were “just friends” I completely bought it. Of course when my sister, her mother, told me over 25 years ago that she and HER Pat were just friends, I completely bought that also. I am actually happy that Meghan and Pat have that “just friends” basis to build on, as I think it is a terrific way to start a life-long romance. My husband and I started 15 years ago as, you guessed it, “just friends.” Meghan and Pat deserve to win this contest just based on the wonderful things people have said on this blog. May they have love, may they have happiness, and may they always be friends. CindyApril 12, 2008 – 8:00 am
Anonymous - When Pat says he used up all of his vacation days, he’s not lying!! Having worked with him for over 3 years now, I’ve seen his dedication to Meghan… these past two especially — while she was away in Honduras. He worked many Saturdays to save up enough time to go visit her. And on several occasions, he worked a few 6-day workweeks in a row (over the holidays no less!) to make the big trip. I’m so glad they are both in the area together again and wish them the best! Congrats!April 13, 2008 – 9:09 am
