I just got back from a FANTASTIC workshop on newborn photography led by Julia Kelleher of Jewel Images in Bend, Oregon. So inspiring! Julia was full of advice and enthusiasm and ideas on everything . . . from posing to props to “how to get baby to sleep.” Thanks for all your expertise and generosity, Julia! We are excited for our new series of newborns here at SilverBox. Having a baby? Know someone who is? Call us! These sessions are best when baby is 10 days old or less, so we recommend booking your session BEFORE your baby arrives.

Welcome to the world, Baby Hannah! SilverBox bride and groom, Jennifer + David, were married here in Columbia in September 2011, and it remains one of my favorite weddings, complete with a card game for the older relatives! (Click here to see some of my favorites from their wedding) And now these two are parents of beautiful Hannah. I’ll be making more pictures of Hannah as she grows; so stay in touch!

everything we love about our town:  the optimism, the diversity, the pro-education stance, the sense of community…that “sesame street quality” that’s tough to put your finger on but floods our hearts with hope + joy . . . everything we love about columbia, missouri streams out of the 100-year-old pores of ulysses s. grant elementary school.

our principal (yep, we call her ‘ours’) ~ she’s retiring.

and one of our beloved teachers, too:

many came to celebrate.

many came back.

there was dancing, singing, hugging, poetry, cupakes, bubbles, the smiles of children, and lots and lots of adoration.

~ over 300 breast cancer survivors marched in the survivors’ parade

~ over 4,000 people ran, walked, wheeled their way from start to finish (in a shirt-drenching downpour by race’s end)

~ and over $150,000 was raised to help find a cure for breast cancer

And then there are all the immeasureables ~ the immense outpouring of love, hope, support, solidarity ~ the intangibles that made the event really and truly successful.

I felt a surge of pride: for all of Columbia . . . just look at what our town can do!; for my Michigan sisters-in-law, Julie and Kim, whom I love dearly and who are strong, beautiful, and breast cancer survivors; for my friends (you know who you are!) who served in various roles . . . coordinating the event, staffing the Survivor’s tent, running and walking (some recovering from cancer treatment themselves, some currently getting treatment); and for all the kids who showed up to be part of it all.

I’ve posted a few pictures below from the day. You can see all the pictures in this slideshow (and you really ought to watch it, ’cause I can almost guarantee, if you live in Columbia, you’re gonna see someone you know!).

And if you want an actual hold-it-in-your-hands print of any of these pictures, please buy one (or more)!
