a baby Bird

We’re home…
not yet unpacked, but home.

Can’t wait to show (and further experiment with) all we learned.
BUT, in the meantime, Kim and I both have a number of images from recent sessions that we love but have yet to share…
so be warned SilverLining watchers, lots of new entries & updates coming your way.
FURTHER WARNING: The next few entries are likely to be image-heavy & text-short, so if what you like about the blog is new pictures without having to scroll through so much rambling narrative, then you are absolutely in luck.

My guess as to why we’ll be a bit less wordy in the near future.
Well kids, it’s Memorial Day Weekend:
Swimming pools open, outdoor grilling begins and
HOORAY! ~ the official kick-off of Wedding Season.
Our FAVORITE time of year.

Let’s start off with Mike & Tracy.
Tracy has one my most favorite (ever!) laughs.
See how she sort of smiles from the tip of her head to the tips of her fingers:
And below are Tracy & Mike TOGETHER. (Michael is equally fabulous & kind & loving & positive & fun, but, perhaps a bit….um, with a laugh that’s slightly softer?)

Now take a look at them TODAY:

What follows: more favorites of Mike & Tracy (Wrenn) Crowe AND the little baby bird nearly ready to say goodbye to the nest. There’s a little wager going on as to delivery date…and drats, I didn’t win this one, but what fun!!

sidenote: We keep hearing that when we post images we should identify them with a copyright mark. OK, so we could just put that circled-C on top of the images, but come one, where’s the fun in that?

In this post you’ll see border & signature options galore….we’re trying to figure out our SilverBox border look. Any thoughts or suggestions are always welcome & appreciated.

Think happy-&-easy-baby-delivery thoughts for Trace & Mike
& check back soon.

Time to unpack:D

tnc - This was so fun to do – thanks for coming and spending time with the family!! :) The images are amazing. We feel blessed to know you!May 30, 2007 – 12:00 pm

Happiness….in any kind of light

What a joy it was to spend a late afternoon with Tracey & Ben.

On the phone Tracey suggested we start our shooting session at Ben’s work “and then we’d like to pack a picnic ~ we eat outside. That’s us. It’s what we do.”

No way could I have dreamed up more beautiful environments, or more pleasant people with whom to share them.

And oh, the LIGHT!!
This time of day is called “God’s light” for a reason. Wow.

Confession: It’s the laughter I REALLY love, but whew, that light takes a close second.
Sometimes though, try as we might, the Golden Hour just doesn’t make it’s way into the day.

Kim & I have committed ourselves this season to “creating” the ambiance of great light, even those times when great light (or dramatic light, or flattering light, or heck, even interesting light) is nowhere to be “found”.

Sure, with Tracey & Ben, we walked and the sun twinkled. But clearly, that’s not always the case. Achieving Great Light is our new SilverBox artistic pursuit. As I type this we’re packing our bags…heading off to Indianapolis to shoot beside and learn from a real lighting master. Zack Arias (who’s flying in from Atlanta) is a guru of great lighting…and now, instead of just drooling over his amazing images, we’re going to get the chance to learn from him first hand.

We can hardly wait!

And would be soooo remiss if we didn’t thank our AMAZING HUSBANDS for handling so much while we’re away. OK, AND my mom. She is coming to town to fill in…complete with making a Caterpillar Cake for the school carnival. Now that’s a mother’s love!

all of which reminds me just how lucky I am.
~ Clients I love to photograph (and heck, feel lucky to even know!!) AND
~ a great family who’s love & support make it possible for me spend the time it takes to discover what makes the couples we photograph sparkle (in any kind of light.)

Life is good.

Click here to see more Tracey & Ben and to happily step back in time with this song. Can you name that tune?? OH, and watch all the way to the end. The DAY BEFORE this shoot, Tracey & Ben bought their FIRST HOUSE. Can’t imagine ending the photo session at a more meaningful place:

Love it. Love it. Love it!

Adrienne - Gorgeous, gorgeous!! Loving what you two have been up to ;) Amazing images!May 22, 2007 – 8:00 pm

tnc - BEAUTIFUL lighting – and what a lovely couple!!May 26, 2007 – 11:59 pm

a Tuesday in Taos

“Tuesdays are lucky,” Becca told me. “It’s a good day to make important life changes” like buying a house or . . . getting married! After Becca & Adam’s wedding in Taos, New Mexico this past Tuesday at El Monte Sagrado resort and spa, I’m inclined to believe her!

Becca & Adam’s wedding ceremony took place in the Sacred Circle ~ the resort’s beautifully landscaped green space sheltered by 5 nearly 100-year-old cottonwood trees and ringed by Tibetan prayer flags.Storm clouds were darkening and drifting in from the west while Becca and Adam dressed for the ceremony. As if on cue, these clouds let loose water-balloon-sized raindrops just as Becca and her father started down the path around the Sacred Circle. (No, those are not dust spots on my lens!)
Adam, noticing Becca’s bare feet, reached down and removed his shoes too.
And then the storm paused (no doubt to catch it’s breath!) while Brenda (Adam’s mom & minister) led the service.
That pause lasted through the end of the ceremony, when Brenda began this Native American Wedding Prayer:
“Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other. . .”

. . . Becca’s reaction to the prayer:

and then a truly torrential rain sent us all under cover. If it’s true that rain on your wedding day brings good luck, then rain on a TUESDAY wedding must mean that Becca & Adam are doubly blessed!

This wedding was, for me, especially wonderful. Becca and Adam, both photographers, found one another in the University of Missouri’s photojournalism program. I met them both in Rita Reed’s lighting & photojournalism class. Adam & Becca are MULTI-talented; in addition to photography, Adam is a gifted writer, and a collection of his photographs from a 12,000-mile trip through mid-America, FLYOVERLANDSCAPE, is now available for purchase! Becca designs jewelry (take a look at what she created and wore on her wedding day!):and she has many personal and professional photography projects in the works. She helped me document several weddings last year (check out blog entries below dated: 3.10.06 or 6.09.06 or 7.13.06 or 5.07.06 to see some of those weddings).

The best part about shooting the wedding of two photographers? Lots of exploratory, picture making time! We walked along Kit Carson Road

splashed our way through puddles down alleyways, braved cowpies, an unleashed guard dog and casino traffic to stand before Taos Mountain, and played in the warmth of the kama sutra suite.

A Tuesday in Taos, a marriage, a 2-photographer couple, a mountain, a day of both sunshine and torrents . . . blessings all.

Evan Wilder - @Kim – looks like you kept your camera dry during the downpour. Way to be prepared!

@The Couple – enjoy your marriage forever and keep jumping on hotel beds all over the world. Congratulations!May 19, 2007 – 9:22 am

grambre - Fantastic story and pictures, Kim.May 19, 2007 – 2:23 pm

Anonymous - Oh it loks like such fun, beautiful documentation!!May 19, 2007 – 9:14 pm

* Becca & Adam * - kim, kim, kim, it is soooooooooo strange for me to see myself on the other end of things!! completely surreal. i LOVE what you’ve got here and can’t wait to see more. it was such a pleasure to have you at our wedding. as i have already said a number of times (and adam has repeatedly made fun of me for it), there was only one choice when it came down to a photographer. i usually hate to have my picture taken, but adam and i had such a great time with you. he even joked with me on our trip home when i struck a pose for him that i was basically still in kim mode.
you are phenonemal in what you do and as a person in general and we are forever grateful for that. your energy and positive attitude is contagious and you have taught me well.

stacie pottinger - okay, Kim…I’ve never before sat at your blogsite and cried over a wedding of two people I don’t even know. I’m sitting here with tears running down my face and a sob here and there. What a beautiful set of images and such a wonderful story, so sacred and so special. Aren’t we so lucky as photographers to be witness to such amazing and awe-inspiring moments in other people’s lives? I am so touched by this gift. Thank you, Kim, for reminding me how lucky I am to be a photographer! You’ve grown so much…those images are truly amazing! -StacieMay 24, 2007 – 8:28 am

Grace Fall - this truly looks like the happiest couple ever…like they go about every day looking to have fun. What beautiful pictures that capture just that…amazing, amazing!June 18, 2007 – 2:16 pm

Cari & Steve ~ MARRIED!

Look at this
charming church!

Bethel Church has been around since 1855. Three years after its founding, the sanctuary that Cari & Steve were married in was built from trees growing on the site. Another cool feature: the ministers are a husband and wife team — how great is that!

It was a beautiful day with the most gorgeous of skies — Simpsons clouds I’m telling you!

Cari’s close knit family was a joy to be around — her bridesmaids: her sister & her cousins. Hmmm…perhaps there’s a little family resemblance…

And Steve’s family — oh how fun!

I’m still laughing
at things his brothers
said & did that the day.

Have yet to hear if there was indeed moose-riding sometime before dawn. Even though there are no moose-jockey pictures to share
(at least in my camera) ~ there are lots of great images to soak up.

HERE’S A LINK TO A FEW OF THE DAY’S HIGHLIGHTS.

BIG SHOUT-OUT
TO TWO PEOPLE
WE VERY MUCH ADMIRE AND
APPRECIATE:

~ Jennifer, what a great job you did second-shooting this wedding. One of my favorites of your creations is found below. Great moment; great seeing. Kim and I love working with you, Jennifer!! Thanks for all you did Saturday and all you do for SilverBox.

~ Lilly! wow, Lilly! I remembered being so impressed with you during Tracy Wrenn’s (now Crowe’s) wedding last year….wait, the year BEFORE??…

I especially remember the fondness Tracy’s family felt for you…and how fun to witness it all again with the Groff girls. You definitely have a fan club! (and it’s easy to see why!!)

Congrats on your new space ~ sure seems to suit you perfecty.

You were so blazingly quick in creating that perfect ring of braid in little Emma’s silky “baby hair”. It held all day! Not only did you figure out the perfect style within seconds; you had it braided & pinned within — get this: (my cameras encode time) ONE MINUTE and FORTY-SEVEN SECONDS, start to finish. Whew — that was a site to see!!!

Cari & Steve, what a day!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to document your celebration & your fabulous families.
Oh, and just in case anyone missed it above….hey, did you see this great show?:D

Bobby & Stacy : the art of remembering it well

It was like a best-of-Columbia tour. If ever you’ve called this town home, or even stopped off on your way thru, bet you can name this most-favorite-joint:

We started at Rock Bridge State Park on a most perfect afternoon,

…Swung by the columns:

…enjoyed a glass of wine at one of Columbia’s most delicious restuarants [Cherry Street Wine Cellar & Bistro ~ the site of Bobby & Stacy's first date AND the very place they were engaged]

…and ended up mmmmmmm….. ordering the best burgers in town.

What an afternoon!

I especially loved hearing their first-person she-said/he-said account of their relationship. Stacy and Bobby are oh so cute together!!! The way they relayed the story of how they met brought to mind a line or two from a song that I hadn’t thought about for years & years.

What would we do without Google??? Type in a random phrase that’s somewhat close to the lyrical line in your head and voilà: mystery solved.

(I could have sworn though that I first heard this one on a Brady Brunch episode but couldn’t find any Google Evidence to verify ~ so my guess is that I’m mistaken.)

There can be no mistake however about the chemistry Bobby Campbell & Stacy Hirt have together ~ but don’t just take my word for it: the proof is in the pictures. CLICK HERE FOR A FEW FAVORITES and jot a comment if this song brings back a memory of yours. Google helped identify it but I’m still stumped of where I heard it first. But what about YOU?

Enjoy! ~ amy enderle
. . . . and speaking of enjoyment; does life get any better than this?!:

PS
In looking for restaurant links to Booches & Cherry Street Wine Cellar, I just stumbled upon this witty & winsome piece in St. Louis RiverFront Times.
Be proud, Columbia, as Ian Froeb’s tagline succinctly states: “Columbia’s a college town. It’s also a eatin’ town. Big-time.”

Jennie - YAY! The comments are back!!!! Delightful pictures, which makes for a delightful morning…you two make EVERYTHING look like the most amazing fun.May 10, 2007 – 8:28 am

Stacy Hirt - Amy…….how many times can I say AMAZING!!! If this is what you captured for engagement pics….I can’t wait to see what you get on our wedding day! Our family & friends are going nuts for ‘the art of remembering it well’ slideshow. Thank you so very much for a beautiful relaxing evening. It ranks in our Top 5 of ‘Dates’…..(1) First Date (2) Engagement Night (3) Engagement Pictutes (w/ Amy)…….it was like you weren’t even there!!!
